Impression
(AdWords term)
The number of times your search ad is served to users by search
engines.
Impressions are not charged.
Image Links
Links clicked via a graphic image. The disadvantage to an image link
is the lack of anchor text to place descriptive keyword phrases into
it. This can be helped by using a descriptive image alt attribute.
Inbound Links
(IBL)
Links that point to your site from other websites. Inbound links are
an important asset that will improve your site's PageRank (PR).
Index
A search engine's database in where it stores textual content from
every web page its spider visits. The home page of a site is often
called the index page (e.g. bonzawebsites.com/index.html)
Index
(Verb)
To add a web page to a search engine database (index).
Indexed Pages
The pages on a site which have been indexed.
Information Architecture
Designing, categorizing, organizing, and structuring site content in
a useful and meaningful way. Good information architecture considers
both how humans and search spiders access a website.
Internal Links
An internal link is a hypertext link that points to another page
within the same website. These links create good information
architecture within a site. The way internal links are structured
will impact the way in which search engine bots spider and
subsequently index pages.
IP Address
(Internet Protocol Address)
Each server or device connected to the Internet is assigned a unique
permanent (static) or temporary (dynamic) IP address. It is
expressed as a four-part series of numbers separated by periods that
identifies every sender and receiver of network data. (E.g.
1.160.10.240) The numbers represent the domain, the network, the
subnetwork and the host computer.
ISP
(Internet Service Provider)
An ISP provides a range of Internet related services to
customers including Internet connectivity, email, website hosting,
and domain name registration and hosting.
