Back links are inbound links pointing to a web page.
Banned
When a search engine blocks your site from appearing in its search
results. Generally only happens to pages that have purposely
attempted to manipulate a search engine's algorithm.
Banner Ad
A graphic image, usually a GIF or JPEG, that can be placed anywhere
on a web page, most frequently centered across the top.
Black Hat SEO
Search engine optimization techniques that are against webmaster
guidelines in order to gain an unfair advantage in the search
engines. If you step too far over the mark, your site may be
penalized or even removed from the index
Bid Management Tool
Software or an ASP service used to manage bids on pay-per-click
search engines.
Bidding
Placing a bid price on keywords to achieve top spot on a
pay-per-click search engine.

Blog ("weblog")
An online diary with entries made daily or on a regular basis. As a
website they present content in a more or less chronological series.
Content may or may not be time sensitive. Most blogs use a Content
Management System such as WordPress rather than individually crafted
web pages. Because of this, the Blogger can choose to concentrate on
content creation instead of html.
Blogger
A free blog program owned by Google. It allows you to publish blogs
on a subdomain, Blogspot.com, or FTP content to your own domain
Blogroll
A link list on a blog, usually linking to other blogs.
Bog roll
An expression unrelated to internet marketing (unless it gives
you the shits, in which case, you'll know soon enough what a Bog
roll is)
Body Copy
Body copy refers to text visible to users, doesn't include
graphical content, navigation, or information hidden in the HTML
source code.
Bot (robot, spider, crawler)
Search engines use bots to find and add web pages to their search
indexes.
Breadcrumb Navigation
Navigation technique used to help search engines and website users
understand where they are on the site, the relationship between
pages and how to het back to the previous page or home page.

Broad Match (An Adwords Term)
Broad Match is a form of "keyword matching" and refers to the
matching of a search listing or advertisement to selected keywords
in any order.
Broken Link
A hyperlink that is no longer functioning. Links can break for a
number of reasons. Four of the most common reasons are; website has
gone offline, linking to content of a temporary nature, moving a
page’s location, changing a domain’s content management system. If
not monitored and fixed the site will cause a poor user experience
which may cause search engines to deem the page not relevant.
Bulk Submission Services
An ASP service that submits many URLs to the search engines on your
behalf. For example: SubmitWolf. Search engines don't like it.
Button
A clickable graphic that takes the user to another page or executes
a program, such as a software demo or a video player.
Bounce Rate
The percentage of users who enter a site and then leave it without
viewing any other pages. |
